Hello and welcome! My name is Katherine Tineo-Komatsu, and I’m a licensed clinical social worker, registered yoga teacher, trainer, consultant, lecturer, supervisor, writer, advocate, and radical intuitive healer. I started in the field of social work over 10 years ago. In this time, I’ve worked with adults, older adults, young people, young children, families, and groups. I developed my skill-set while working in non-profits, health care agencies, and educational settings.
I attended Brown University and graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in Africana Studies. I then attended Columbia University and graduated with a master of science degree in Social Work. I completed a certificate program at The New School in Integrative Harm Reduction Psychotherapy. I also completed a 200-hr certificate program with Breathe for Change in teaching yoga and social emotional learning to educators and students.
In my spare time, I enjoy learning about my relationship and connection to earth and the universe through alternative philosophies. I also enjoy building community connections and learning how to have more compassion, love, and acceptance for others and myself. I find joy in exploring ways of dismantling systems of oppression that impact how we are in relationship with ourselves and each other. I was born in the Dominican Republic and raised in New York City. I currently live in NYC with my partner and our two daughters.
“I enjoyed and took a lot in from the training. It made me realize I was a talker and not a listener. I am now listening to my patients and I have seen a positive change, and honestly, it has helped me on a personal level as well.”
“It was a wonderful experience learning about motivational interviewing with Katherine, and so far, it has been very useful. We’ve been putting what we learned into practice and have seen some changes already!”
We have worked with several organizations, including the Department of Health & Mental Hygiene; the Museum of Modern Art; the Red Balloon Learning Center, a nursery school in Harlem; Mount Sinai Health Systems; and New York Presbyterian.
